Office of Research Discovery Grant Program

The Office of Research (OOR) sponsors an annual Discovery Grant competition designed to stimulate the development of new research ideas. Discovery Grants are not intended as bridge funding, and applicants must have expended all development funds before applying for a Discovery Grant. These grants fund up to $50,000 per year for one or two years to support pre-R01-type research, for a total grant of $100,000.

Applications are evaluated on scientific merit and the likelihood that a project, if further developed, will be competitive for individual research project funding (R01). OOR requires information about what federally funded award the applicant plans to pursue using data and results from his or her Discovery Grant.

Discovery Grant applications are due in the OOR by mid-March, with grant funding to begin July 1. The OOR announces each annual competition via Medical Center Communications and in The Reporter.
