Neurochemistry Core
The Neurochemistry Core is a joint service facility operated by the Center for Molecular Neuroscience and the Kennedy Center for Research on Human Development. The Neurochemistry Core offers services for neurochemical profiling of brain, peripheral tissues, and body fluids. The core provides analytical services for the quantitation of multiple biogenic amine neurotransmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and acetylcholine); biogenic amine metabolites; and amino acids and amino acid neurotransmitters (glutamate, GABA). Analyses on vertebrate and invertebrate preparations are available. Investigators provide primary tissue samples or extracts stabilized for analysis. Customized HPLC services are available, and the core oversees tools for neurotransmitter release from brain slices, neurotransmitter receptor quantitation, scintillation spectrometry, and gamma counting equipment.
