Molecular Cell Biology Resource Core
The Molecular Cell Biology Resource Core (MCBRC) is a convenient, cost effective, distribution center for scientific consumables and kits as well as an instrumentation resource. The Core is located in 834 Light Hall and has a large inventory of scientific supplies on site. Use our online catalog to see our current inventory and place your order or come over and just browse "the store". If we don't have what you need, we can place special orders from our supply vendors and get your item usually at a discounted price with no shipping charges. Our free delivery service will deliver your online and special orders to your lab. You can also purchase DNA oligonucleotides from Operon or Sigma that are PAGE or HPLC purified from our website at discounted prices. Please take advantage of our real-time PCR primer design and optimization service when ordering your real-time PCR primers. See details on our website. The cell culture arm of the Core produces and sells custom media, as well as commercial media, serum and cell culture reagents at discounted prices. Commonly used cell culture reagents such as trypsin and PBS are also produced in the Core and are available at very low cost. This part of the Core supplies freshly prepared bacteria growth plates with or without specified antibiotics, and transformation competent bacteria produced in-house. The MCBRC also houses state-of-the-art instrumentation for imaging and quantitation of visible, fluorescent, radioactive, luminescent, and chemiluminescent signals from gels, membranes, or multi-well plates. Instruments available free for use include a Bio-Rad (BR) "PharosFX" PhosphorImager with external laser, a BR "Chemidoc", a BR "Geldoc", and a LICOR "Odyssey" infrared-based protein detection system for Western blots and in-cell Westerns. The Core also houses three BR real-time PCR instruments available on a sign-out basis. Other insruments include a BR "Experion" for the analysis of RNA integrity before PCR experiments, and a Molecular Devices Spectramax M5 plate reader with fluorescent capability. Digitized images and data from the instruments may be saved to transportable storage or printed on site.
