CHGR - Genetic Studies Ascertainment Core
The Center for Human Genetics Research (CHGR) Genetic Studies Ascertainment Core offers a variety of services to clinical and basic researchers conducting genetics studies, including study design, development, and management; participant ascertainment; data management; and phlebotomy supplies and templates. The Core also provides consultations to determine the cost, time, personnel needs, and best method of ascertainment for genetic studies. In addition, it provides template forms for genetic studies, including consent forms and IRB transmittal forms, and Core staff is available to assist the investigator with IRB preparation and submission. Information on the easiest methods of obtaining biological samples, including kits for obtaining blood samples and buccal cells, also is available. The Core staff consists of genetic counselors, research nurses and masters' level psychologists and research assistants who enroll study participants and provide yearly updates to participants, maintain research files and databases, and present educational forums to the lay community.
