CHGR - DNA Resources Core

Since 1997, the Center for Human Genetics Research (CHGR) DNA Resources Core has provided DNA extraction and genotyping services. Over 200,000 samples have been extracted and millions of genotypes generated for Vanderbilt research groups and their collaborators.

Investigators seeking extraction services benefit from our extensive experience in the management of patient samples and the storage of DNA and related records. After automated extraction on one of our two Autopures, samples are quantitated and banked. Processed samples are currently stored in color and bar-coded cryo-tubes in a secure system that is accessed through the DNA Resources Core database using passwords and assigned user names - a system that ensures investigator control of banked samples. In the near future, the Core will unveil an even more integrated database and an automated storage and retrieval system incorporating state of the art 2Dbarcoded tubes.

The DNA Resources Core genotyping platforms range in throughput from our Applied Biosystems 7900HT which can score one genotype per DNA sample to our new Illumina BeadXpress which can score up to 384 genotypes per patient DNA. The Core also offers both medium scale genotyping as well as methylation analysis on our Sequenom MassArray.

The DNA Resources Core offers ancillary services related to the above two areas, as well as access to the separation, viral transformation, and cryopreservation of human lymphoblasts for research. Pricing and service details are found on our website or contact Cara Sutcliffe for further information.
