Growth & Research Funding

 

  • VUMC was 10th in the nation in NIH grant funding in 2007.

  • Support for competitive research grants from all external sources was more than $417 million in FY 2008.

  • The VUMC research enterprise has seen extraordinary growth in recent years. For the period 2000-2005, the compound annual growth rate in NIH grant awards was 17.8%—the fastest growth of all U.S. academic medical centers.

  • Total research space at VUMC in 2007: 578,000 square feet.

  • Five School of Medicine departments rank in the top 10 nationwide in scholarly output in 2006-07, calculated in terms of faculty publications, citations, awards, and grants.
