Foreign Credential Evaluations:

PLEASE NOTE:
In the past, a foreign credential letter was written by a Vanderbilt faculty member (for PhD and MD degree holders). OIS now requires ALL foreign employees with foreign degrees to obtain an academic evaluation report from an independent US credentialing agency. The benefit of this process is that it reduces the liability of the Vanderbilt faculty. Additionally, the independent academic credential report can be used for permanent residence filings whereas the Vanderbilt faculty letter, cannot. The cost of the report is very small and can be paid by cost center number. Alternatively, the foreign employee can use the evaluation agency of their choice.

If a foreign employee has a foreign degree (i.e. not from a US college or university) and that foreign degree is being used to meet the qualifications for the Vanderbilt position, an academic credential evaluation report must be obtained from a U.S. credentialing company only. If requested, OIS will also submit the credential evaluation on behalf of the employee. The fees for submitting the credentials evaluation through OIS can be found on our new fee sheet (www.vanderbilt/edu/ois “Forms”). OIS has made arrangements to have evaluations done through Morningside Evaluations if the foreign employee does not already have an academic evaluation report from a US company.

Foreign medical graduates with an ECFMG certificate DO NOT have to do an academic evaluation report as the ECFMG certification is an academic evaluation report.

Department Support Letter:

PLEASE NOTE: OIS no longe requires Department Suppor Letters. Our department will write the department support letter. All we ask is that the department provides a complete job description in the appropriate packet submitted.
