How to Register to Vote

There are two choices for your voter registration!

  1. You can register to vote in Davidson Co. with your Vanderbilt address and go to the polls on Election Day; or
  2. You can register to vote in your home county and vote absentee.
  3. For Nashville locals: If you are from Davidson Co. you may want to register with your Vanderbilt address to have a closer polling location

VOTING LOCALLY

  1. Register to vote in Davidson County, TN using your campus Box Number. Wherever you move after graduation, you can easily change your voter registration in the future.
  2. Registration forms are available at the CPH (Community Partnership House) at 401 24th Ave. South (Behind Branscomb)
  3. Tennessee voters must register one month in advance of any vote! All registration forms must be postmarked or delivered to the Davidson County Election Commission by 5pm on this date.

VOTING ABSENTEE

  1. Register to vote in your hometown. You can often register by mail, with the exception of WY. Deadlines vary, so check with your County Clerk's office.
  2. IL, NV, MI, LA, and TN require that you register to vote IN PERSON if you plan to vote absentee. If you are from one of these states and you are not already registered to vote, voting locally in Nashville may be your best option (see instructions above).
  3. Contact the County Clerk's Office for your hometown and request that an Absentee Ballot Request Form be mailed to you (this form is sometimes available online). Fill the form out and mail the ballot request form back promptly. Deadlines vary to request an absentee ballot, so be sure to check with your County Clerk's Office.
  4. Your absentee vallot will arrive in the mail. Complete it and postmark the ballot at least one day prior to the actual election. Some states require a notary in order to accept your absentee vote. OACS can assist with this! Email Martha Dale to set up an appointment to have your ballot notarized.
  5. Know your state's deadlines and requirements! Check out the Absentee Voters Guide for complete state-by-state information.
