For Parents: The Ecuador Project
Dear Parents,
The mission of the Ecuador Project is to introduce students to the culture and social issues of the Ecuadorian region through community-based service. The program will provide the opportunity for active participation in the community and direct relationships with Ecuadorian people. Exploration begins in the Spring Semester Seminars wherein students become acquainted with the history, culture, and challenges facing theregion.
The program will explore the rich cultural heritage of Ecuadorians (afroecuadorians, mestizos and Native Americans.) Through a four-week immersion with various social services, health, and community development agencies, students will be invited to reflect on the importance of grassroots movements, social networks, and biodiversity.
Students selected can participate in programs such as:
- Community Development
- Public Health
- Special Education
- Ecotourism
OACS partner in Ecuador is Universidad San Francisco de Quito, USFQ.
The Ecuador Program Fee is $2,200 and includes:
- Spring Semester Seminars
- Transportation to-from Quito airport
- Room
- Laundry
- Four group dinners
- Food –two meals a day
- Quito city tour
- Introduction session, and to the USFQ and service site
- A trip to the Ecuadorian Amazon –airfare, national park entry, room and board included (3 days stay)
- A trip to Otavalo
- A trip to or Cotopaxi OR Quilotoa
- A donation for site supervisors
