9/11 Weekend of Service: Thank You!
Posted by oits on Monday, September 12, 2011 in Blog.
Thanks to everyone who participated in our 2nd Annual 9/11 Weekend of Service. Vanderbilt students participated in more than 50 service projects in the Nashville community throughout the weekend!
Students performed community service throughout the weekend of Sept. 9, 10 and 11, ranging from working in community gardens and educational and team-building activities with school children to helping the homeless and post-flood park restoration.
The Office of Active Citizenship and Service sponsored the service projects in conjunction with Vanderbilt student service groups, residential houses and other campus programs. The number of service projects offered this year nearly doubled from last year.
The students’ efforts are in keeping with The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance established in 2009 by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. This year, more than a million Americans served in their communities to honor the sacrifice of those who were lost on 9/11 and pay tribute to those who rose in service in response to the tragedy.
