History of OACS
The house known as the Community Partnership House was built in the late 19th century as a private residence, later remodeled with its current Spanish-style architecture, and years later purchased by the university. Over the years it served as residence for Chancellors Oliver Cromwell Carmichael and Harvie Branscomb, home to Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, the University Club, and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Since 1992, the building has been known as the Community Partnership House and has been home to the Office of Active Citizenship and Service (OACS). The OACS comprises more than fifty student service groups and a professional staff engaged in solutions to local, national, and international problems through direct, hands-on volunteer service.
The building includes several meeting rooms that can be used by student groups as well as a walled garden providing a quiet sanctuary for relaxation.
