How to: REGISTER TO VOTE

************************************

There are two choices for your voter registration!

  1. You can register to vote in Davidson Co. and go to the polls on Election Day; or
  2. You can register to vote in your home county and vote absentee.
  3. FOR THE LOCALS: If you are from Davidson Co. you may want to register with your Vanderbilt address to have a closer polling location

VOTING LOCALLY

  1. Register to vote in Davidson County, TN using your Box Number. This will not affect your residency, and you can change where you are registered to vote in the future.
  2. Registration forms are available at the CPH (Community Partnership House) at 401 24th Ave. South (Behind Branscomb)
  3. Tennessee voters must register by October 6th! All registration forms must be postmarked or delivered to the Davidson County Election Commission by 5pm on this date.
  4. On Election Day, November 4th, take the FREE shuttle to the nearest polling site! Shuttles will depart from the Commons Center and Branscomb Quad every hour from 8am until 6pm (final shuttle departs).

VOTING ABSENTEE

  1. Register to vote in your hometown. You can often register by mail, with the exception of WY. Deadlines vary, but the earliest state voter registration deadline is October 4th.
  2. IL, NV, MI, LA, and TN require that you register to vote IN PERSON if you plan to vote absentee. If you are from one of these states and you are not already registered to vote, voting locally may be your best option (see instructions above).
  3. Contact the County Clerk's Office for your hometown and request that an Absentee Ballot Request Form be mailed to you (this form is sometimes available online). Mail the ballot request form bck promptly. The earliest state deadline to request an absentee ballot is October 13th.
  4. Your absentee vallot will arrive in the mail. Complete it and return before November 3rd. Some states require a notary in order to accept your absentee vote. OACS can assist with this! Email Martha Dale for more information.
  5. Know your state's deadlines and requirements! Check out the Absentee Voters Guide for complete state-by-state information.
