Video: Scholar Identity Institute prepares young black men for success

Watch video about the Scholar Identity Institute at Vanderbilt University, an innovative program now in its third year that aims to give young black men the academic and personal skills and attitudes they need for lifelong success, closing the achievement gap in the process. The video, filmed during the program's second year in 2007, features interviews with the young men and program  coordinators Gilman Whiting, assistant professor of African American and diaspora studies, and Donna Ford, professor of special education. Houston Baker, University Distinguished Professor of English, is also featured.

The institute is a partnership with 100 Kings, a black male youth group formed by the 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee.
