DESCRIPTION:Vanderbilt University has partnered with the University of Memphis and East Tennessee State University to host a statewide\, free electronics recycling event May 14 to 17. The LP Field parking lots will be the collection point for Middle Tennessee.\n\n\nFrom May 14 to 16\, higher education institutions\, K-12 schools\, school districts\, government agencies and nonprofit organizations may bring electronics to LP Field from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. These organizations are encouraged to pre-register for the event at http\://tennessee.poweron.com/register.\n\n\nOn May 17\, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.\, the event is free and open to the public.&nbsp\; Any Middle Tennessee individual or household can recycle unwanted electronics.\n\n\n&ldquo\;If you have items that have reached the end of their usefulness\, now is a good time to take action\,&rdquo\; said Andrea George\, director of Vanderbilt&rsquo\;s Sustainability and Environmental Management Office. &ldquo\;Electronic equipment contains significant levels of heavy metals and other toxic chemicals that are harmful to humans and could contaminate water supplies if disposed of improperly. Please help us ensure that unwanted electronic equipment is disposed of in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.&rdquo\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;\n\n\nItems that can be recycled include any type of computer system\, monitors\, printers\, copiers\, fax machines\, TVs\, cell phones\, iPods and mp3 players\, game consoles and other types of consumer and office electronics.\n\n\nItems that cannot be recycled include household appliances\, smoke detectors\, hair dryers\, microwaves and contaminated or hazardous equipment.
