DESCRIPTION:(Broadcast media note\: Vanderbilt has dedicated Vyvx line available 24-7 for television interviews and an ISDN line for radio interviews).\n\n\nVanderbilt researchers are available to offer insights on the potential circumstances surrounding school violence and the impact of the tragic April 16 shootings at Virginia Tech on students\, faculty and staff.\n\n\nMaury Nation can discuss understanding and preventing violence and bullying among youth and the short- and long-term consequences of peer harassment. Nation is assistant professor of human and organizational development at Vanderbilt&rsquo\;s Peabody College of education and human development. He is the author of numerous scholarly articles and book chapters on school violence and bullying.\n\n\nJessica Giles can discuss how children&rsquo\;s early perception of violence\, anger and aggression differs between boys and girls and how a better understanding of how children perceive violence can lead to better violence prevention. She can also discuss how children and young people cope with and are impacted by violence and trauma.
