MEDIA ADVISORY: Google "App to School" Bus Tour makes stop at Vanderbilt University Sept. 18

The presidential candidates aren’t the only ones hitting the campaign trail. Technology company Google will bring its retro-fitted, eco-friendly school bus to Vanderbilt University Thursday, Sept. 18, as part of a campaign to get more students, faculty and staff using their free Google Apps for Education that includes Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Talk calls and instant messaging, and Google Sites website builder. The interactive bus and product demo stations will be at The Commons from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. where the university community will get the chance to try out Google Apps, play Rockband and Wii and snag some free giveaways. At 1 p.m., a Google representative will give a free classroom-style tour and demonstration of how to use Google applications in the multipurpose room of The Commons Center. The stop at Vanderbilt is part of a cross-country tour during which Google also wants to learn how students are using Google Apps on and off campus, and what they might like to see in the future.
