Prominent political analyst to speak at Vanderbilt about 2008 elections

Cook’s lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be in Wilson Hall, Room 103. A reception will follow his talk, which is sponsored by Vanderbilt’s Department of Political Science and Division of Public Affairs. “We are so pleased that Charlie is coming to campus,” said John Geer, Distinguished Professor of Political Science and interim department chair. “This will be a wonderful opportunity for all ‘political junkies’ to hear the latest election trends and forecasts from a veteran non-partisan campaign observer who is widely respected by national journalists.” In addition to the lecture, Cook will address students in the 2008 Elections course team-taught by Professor of Political Science Bruce Oppenheimer, Harold Ford Jr., Vin Weber and Geer. Ford is a visiting professor of public policy and Weber is an adjunct professor of political science at Vanderbilt. Cook writes weekly for the National Journal and CongressDailyAM as a political analyst for the National Journal Group. He pens a regular column for the Washington Quarterly, published by the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Also, he serves as a political analyst for NBC News and has also been interviewed on MSNBC, CNBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, C-SPAN and NPR. He has served as an NBC election night analyst since 1994.
