Black and gold attire encouraged on College Colors Day

This is the second year that Vanderbilt is participating in this four-year-old national initiative established by the Collegiate Licensing Company to promote fan loyalty and the enjoyment of back-to-school traditions. College Colors Day is traditionally held on the Friday prior to the first Saturday of the football season for most colleges and universities. All Vanderbilt faculty, staff and students are encouraged to wear black and gold on Aug. 29. In addition, the Vanderbilt Bookstore will give fans the chance to trade in a well-worn non-Vanderbilt T-shirt for a 25 percent discount on one Vanderbilt T-shirt. This offer will be available at the bookstore from Aug. 16 to Aug. 30. All donated items will be given to charity. Recording artist Toby Keith will kick off this year’s national festivities with a concert in Allentown, Pa., on Aug. 29. Gov. Phil Bredesen has officially proclaimed Aug. 29, 2008, as College Colors Day in Tennessee. He noted that dozens of Tennessee colleges and universities provide educational opportunities to thousands of students each year. In addition, intercollegiate athletics in Tennessee provide scholarship opportunities to many young people.
