![]() Poet Robin Becker will read from work at Vanderbilt Oct. 1. The Nashville community is invited to the free reading 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in Room 102 of Buttrick Hall on the Vanderbilt campus, near Sarratt Student Center. Becker, professor of English and women’s studies at Pennsylvania State University, has published seven books of poetry. The latest, Domain of Perfect Affection, was released in 2006 by the University of Pittsburgh Press. “Robin Becker achieves what may be one of the early 21st century’s most difficult accomplishments – to write a credible poetry of affirmation,” said Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Stephen Dunn. “In the doing, she doesn’t pretty up the world. Rather, she finds language that embraces our dualities, our many-selved presences, regularly demonstrating her kind of perfect affection.” Becker’s poems and book reviews have been published by American Poetry Review, the Boston Globe and Ploughshares. Becker has received individual fellowships for poetry from The Radcliffe Institute of Advanced Study, The Massachusetts Cultural Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. The reading will be recorded for podcast on VUCast, the Web site of Vanderbilt News Service, at http://www.vanderbilt.edu/news/.
