Poet Kate Light will perform with the Blair String Quartet and give a solo reading during a visit to Vanderbilt University on Nov. 12 and 13.
“It’s hard to think of a poet so aptly named as Kate Light, except, of course, for Wordsworth,” said Billy Collins, former Poet Laureate of the United States. “The step of her poems is light, and plenty of that luminous stuff is shed here.”
Light will be backed by the Blair String Quartet at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in the Steve and Judy Turner Recital Hall at Blair for a performance of Einstein’s Mozart. The show will pair Light’s poetry about the lives and work of Albert Einstein and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with a performance by the quartet of Mozart’s “Viola Quintet in G Minor” and “String Quartet in G Major, K. 387.”
The show immerses the audience in history, science, biography, poetry and music.
At 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, Light will read solo from her work in Room 101 of Buttrick Hall.
Light has published three books of poetry, Gravity’s Dream, Open Slowly and The Laws of Falling Bodies. She is also a professional violinist in New York City.
Both events are free and open to the public. The solo reading will be recorded for podcast on VUCast, the Web site of Vanderbilt News Service, at www.vanderbilt.edu/news.
