Goodman, Blake honored at Fall Faculty Assembly

Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos; Virginia L. Shepherd, professor of pathology and chair of the Faculty Senate; and Lenn E. Goodman, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of the Humanities and professor of philosophy; at the Fall Faculty Assembly on Aug. 26 as Zeppos congratulates Goodman on winning The Earl Sutherland Prize for Achievement in Research.
Award winners:
SUTHERLAND PRIZE
The Earl Sutherland Prize for Achievement in Research is awarded annually to a member of the Vanderbilt faculty whose achievements in research, scholarship or creative expression have had significant critical reception and are recognized nationally or internationally. The prize consists of $5,000 and an engraved pewter julep cup. The winner's name is added to a silver bowl following a design by Paul Revere. The recipient keeps the bowl for one year.

THOMAS JEFFERSON AWARD
The Thomas Jefferson Award is made annually "for distinguished service to Vanderbilt through extraordinary contributions as a member of the faculty in the councils and government of the University." The award carries with it an engraved pewter goblet and $2,500 cash. Faculty in all schools are eligible.

CHANCELLOR’S AWARDS FOR RESEARCH
The Chancellor's Awards for Research recognize excellence in research, scholarship or creative expression. All tenured and tenure-track members of the Vanderbilt faculty are eligible for consideration. The awards are given for works presented or published in the preceding three calendar years. Up to five awards may be given each year. Works by research teams are eligible for consideration. The award carries a stipend of $1,000 and an engraved pewter julep cup.
