Gov. Phil Bredesen

Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen was a guest lecturer on April 2 for a political science class co-taught by Professors Harold Ford Jr. and John Geer. Ford, a visiting professor of political science and former Memphis congressman, arranged for Bredesen to speak to students in "The Politics of Change and the 2008 Presidential Campaign" course.

Bredesen discussed his superdelegate primary plan, which calls for a June gathering of the 330 superdelegates to vote on record for either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton and resolve before the national convention who will be the Democratic presidential nominee. The governor, who took questions from the students, is one of 17 Democratic superdelgates for Tennessee.

The class, which is meeting six times throughout the semester, strives to bring information from both scholarly and political experts as students put the 2008 presidential campaign and its theme of change into a broader historical setting.
