The
Cal Turner Program for Moral Leadership in the Professions sponsors
a variety of opportunities designed to engage students and faculty
in ethical issues that face the professions. The CTP focuses on moral
concerns that reveal the range of ways that different professions
conceptualize and respond to those concerns.
Please come and join Nibs Stroupe and Caroline Leach for a conversation and workshop on Doing Urban Ministry that Matters. It is increasingly obvious that the U.S. is becoming (has become) a multicultural nation. What does that mean for mainline Anglo churches? What does it mean for African-American churches? We will explore themes, possibilities, and problems, and then look ahead to where we go from here.
Nibs and Caroline have been the pastors at Oakhurst Presbyterian Church for the past 25 years. This inner city church has been a site for profound and effective cross racial ministry, and serves as a model for other congregations who seek to challenge the notion that "Sunday at 11:00am is the most segregated hour of the week." Nibs and Caroline have been intentional about developing a model of ministry that crosses boundaries. It is sometimes challenging work, but Oakhurst demonstrates that it can be done, and done effectively.
Date: April 16th from 12:10-1:00 pm (luncheon); 1:10-2 (workshop)
Location: Tillett Lounge of the Divinity school
Registration required; please note if you will be attending the luncheon discussion only, the workshop only, or both.
