While professions routinely face challenges, more serious crises
emerge at times and must be quickly confronted. Such critical episodes
might emerge from natural disasters, poor decision-making, unanticipated
events, or popular perception, to name a few. This two-year focus
will begin by examining specific crises that face individual practitioners
or their profession more generally. The second phase will encompass
themes that cut across the particular examples and further explore
additional crises to illuminate key issues that arise during the
discussions.

Professionals are confronted with issues raised
by privacy concerns. They often acquire personal information about
their clients, parishioners, and patients as they provide their
services. This includes information that can directly affect the
well-being of others. Technological developments facilitate the
ease with which professionals can track information about individuals
and transmit that information to other parties, bringing forth questions
about appropriate uses of technology. The CTP will examine the challenges
that privacy concerns raise for professionals. (Fall 2004–
Spring 2006)
