“MHS gives a look into the world, and a hope that someday I can change it.”
            ~Disha Kumar, MHS '07

The interdisciplinary undergraduate program draws on a variety of fields in the social sciences and humanities to study health and health care in their social and cultural contexts.  MHS-related disciplines include anthropology, economics, history, literature, psychology, sociology, philosophy/ethics, and religious studies.  The program will be of particular interest to students preparing for careers in a health-related profession but will also have much to offer any student open to examining an important part of the human experience from multiple perspectives and developing a critical understanding of contemporary society.

To declare a major or minor in MHS, complete the declaration of major or declaration of minor and student information form. Take your paperwork to Ms.Barbara Kaeser at 230 Buttrick. She will sign paperwork, assign advisor and schedule you for a mandatory New Major Info Session. A signed declaration of major or minor must also be turned in to the A&S Registrar’s office in 311 Kirkland Hall. Contact your assigned advisor to set up a follow-up appointment.

New Major Information Sessions are mandatory for new majors and strongly recommended for new minors. You are only required to attend one session. Students interested in the MHS major or minor are encouraged to attend. The sessions are lead by MHS faculty. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions of a Student Advisory Board member (comprised of juniors and seniors in the MHS program). Please contact barbara.kaeser@vanderbilt.edu or courtney.e.muse@vanderbilt.edu for more information. The next info session will be offered Fall 2009 (date and location TBA).
