Stevenson Professor Larry Schumaker has been named a 2013 Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). He is one of only 33 mathematicians named as SIAM Fellows this year.

Professor Ed Saff, a member of Vanderbilt’s Mathematics Department since  2001, has been elected a Foreign Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He was selected in recognition of his contributions to the field of mathematics and to constructive approximation in particular.

Romain Tessera, a former postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Mathematics, has been awarded the 2013 Bronze Medal in Mathematics by the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).

Eight faculty members from the department have been named as members of the inaugural class of Fellows of the American Mathematical Society. The new fellowship program recognizes members “who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication and utilization of mathematics.”
