Disposing of Computers
Vanderbilt has specific requirements for disposing of computers and peripherals, whether they are working or not. There are several reasons for these requirements:
Computers and peripherals contain toxic metals that must be disposed of properly. They cannot simply be thrown away in a trash receptacle.
Some computer equipment can be sold to refurbishers or recyclers.
For security reasons, users must certify that computers being recycled or discarded have been cleaned of all data.
To request pick-up of unwanted Math Dept. PCs and peripherals, print this form and follow the instructions.
Personal computer items -- as well as other household hazardous wastes such as paint and chemicals -- can be taken to a Nashville drop-off site (Davidson County residents only).
