Good Mail Practices
SEPARATION OF MAIL
Mail will receive faster processing through the Post Office if it is separated into bundles. Foreign Mail should be on top of the bundle or in a separate bundle. Registered, Certified and other special seriveces should be bundled separately as well. Adhesive stamped mail should be separate from mail to be metered or Campus Mail.
SEALING ENVELOPES
To save you time, envelopes may be sealed at the time they are metered by Station B. However, all the flaps must be out and overlapping each other.
GROUP WEIGHTS
Mail that has been grouped by weight can be metered faster., i.e., all 1 oz. letters together; all 4 oz. letter together.
NON-STANDARD SIZE MAIL
To avoid delays and extra expense, you should use machineable size mail. A $.17 surcharge will apply to each piece of mail that is:
-- First Class mail weighing one ounce or less that exceeds 6 X 9 or ¼" thick.
--
Note that the minimum size for letter and postcard mail is 3.5" x 5 and 0.007" thick. Any piece less than these dimensions is UNMAILABLE.
