Each
Leadership Vanderbilt class chooses a community service project to
work on as a group. The group volunteers usually on one Saturday
morning during the summerand works together, furthering the
service mission of Vanderbilt University. By giving our time and energy,
we demonstrate that leadership extends beyond the office door to the
surrounding community, and we apply what were learning as leaders
to influence others in a positive and constructive way.
Leadership Vanderbilt participants have enjoyed the community service
projects so much that many continue to gather each year as alumni
to select and work on a project. |

The
2004 class worked with their minds not their muscles as
they participated in a brainstorming session for the Crisis Center.
For 35 years, Crisis Center has been a key player in Nashville’s
emergency and crisis response system, operating the only free 24-hour
crisis counseling hotline in Middle Tennessee. Follow-up is provided
to individuals who are at high risk for suicide, homicide, physical
abuse, or sexual abuse. LV participants spent a morning learning
about the Crisis Center and then offering ideas about possible revenue
streams that could augment donations and United Way funds. For more
information about Crisis Center visit their website at www.crisiscntr.org.
