LSI media specialist Lyle Jackson has created a new documentary that highlights the guiding principles of the LSI, and shows how these principles are being applied in interdisciplinary research on the learning sciences. Winner of an Award of Distinction in the 2006 Videographer Awards, The Learning Sciences: Innovation in Understanding explores the connections among how people learn, effective teaching and curriculum, and policy innovations, while presenting some of the important work being conducted by LSI investigators.
Viewers will learn how up-to-the-minute brain imaging seeks to determine how people learn and retain information, while new theories of teaching and learning help children recognize the connection between their real-world experience and mathematical concepts. The documentary also emphasizes the truly interdisciplinary nature of LSI projects, as computer science engineers, psychologists, and education researchers combine their talents to produce a computer program that fosters learning by having youngsters teach “Betty,” a virtual student, about river ecosystems.
Whether you are new to the LSI or have followed the institute’s development from the beginning, this engrossing film is sure to deepen your understanding of and appreciation for the groundbreaking work taking place at the Learning Sciences Institute.
