Steve "Trapper" Baum (Lecturer in Department of Teaching & Learning, Peabody College)
Helping to create PLAN has engaged Steve “Trapper” Baum in a new community in which practitioners and the university strive to unite practice and theory. Being a part of this community has allowed him to analyze his experience more thoroughly and has given him a greater understanding and increased his points of reference. Working with PLAN is important to Steve because its mission is to promote creative and courageous leadership in schools and he believes that to be one of the noblest of all missions.
His favorite part of PLAN is having the time to reflect, question his assumptions and beliefs, and hopefully improve practice.
Nat Morrow (Principal at Christ Presbyterian Academy)
While attending the Principals Leadership Academy of Nashville he learned many effective administrative tools. The concept of “continuous conversation” has yet to escape him while serving as principal at Christ Presbyterian Academy. He has begun to listen to the conversations around the institution and in doing so he has started to understand the core values of the school. By listening to the conversations between teachers, students, and other administrators he has been able to asses his surroundings and see if the institution is moving towards its mission.
As an administrator, he continues to use many of the things he learned in PLAN. He has started to collaborate within the school, by facilitating conversations between faculty, students, and other administrators that bring things full circle. He believes that PLAN is a great tool for those wanting to progress in their administrative career. He describes PLAN as being almost like graduate school, and creates a great blend of theoretical and practical application. He still calls fellow PLAN graduates to learn new things and to share how they handled certain situations. He says that PLAN has been an invaluable asset.
