English Conversation Sessions

Vanderbilt Sessions

Amnesty International

These English Conversation Sessions are designed to help Vanderbilt’s international employees, students, scholars, and their families practice their conversational English and improve their quality of life in the United States. Amnesty International holds its English Conversation Sessions every fall and spring semester on Wednesdays, 4-5 p.m. during the Academic Year at Vanderbilt Community Partnership House (CPH) building. BRET Office of Post-Doctoral Affairs

BRET Office of Post-Doctoral Affairs sponsors convenient, low-cost courses ($96.00 per session) for English speaking skills. Two sessions are offered during the summer. Summer Session 1 is offered May 24 – June 28, and Summer Session 2 is offered July 10 – August 16. The classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 pm to 7:30 p.m. in room 306 Light Hall. ISSS

English Conversation Sessions are held every Thursday 5-6 p.m. in the ISSS suite 103 during the academic year. All students, scholars and spouses are welcome to attend the sessions.

COMMUNITY CONVERSATION SESSIONS

American Conversation Partners

This is a no-cost conversational English program in which international students and spouses are matched with an American college student or volunteer who will help them improve their conversational skills. We meet on Mondays, 6:45-8 p.m., starting on September 24 in the Koinonia Classroom at Belmont Church, 68 Music Square E., Nashville 37203. Light refreshments are served. Registration is required, and those interested should email Charles Parker: cap3105@bellsouth.net

Belmont International English

Beginning, mid-level, and upper level English classes are offered during the academic year for adults, free of charge. The classes are held at Belmont United Methodist Church, 2007 Acklen Ave., in Hillsboro Village. Applicants will be referred to take a preliminary test before enrolling. Bridge International ESL Fellowship (Green Hills)

Cohn Adult High School

English Language Learning (ELL) Classes are available for levels I, II, II, and IV.

Conversational English Classes (Antioch)

Mon. & Wed., 7-8:30 p.m. (starting on Sept. 10, 2012), sponsored by Antioch Church of Christ, 2142 Antioch Pike, Antioch, TN 37013. Registration required in person at the “sign-up Saturday” on August 25th at 9:00 a.m.  Contact Lisa Steele at 615-834-3063.

Conversational English Classes (Brook Hollow)

ESL (3 levels, citizenship)

Tuesday 6:30-8:15 p.m. (summer session June 5 – July 31, 2012; fall session Sept. 4 – Nov. 20, 2012), sponsored by Crievewood Baptist Church, held at Thrift Smart, 4890 Nolensville Rd., Nashville 37211. Friday Conversations at Edgehill Café

This is a great place to practice your English and make new friends from Nashville and around the world. We sometimes have a topic, other times a presentation and often we just talk as friends. FriendSpeak

FriendSpeak is a program designed to help individuals who already speak English as a secondary language practice their conversational English using a simplified version of the Bible as the text. Nashville Adult Literacy Council

The NALC English Language Learning program offers beginner level classes, small groups, one-on-one instruction, and an interactive computer lab to Davidson County adult immigrants aged 18 and over who would like to improve their English communication skills. Tennessee Foreign Language Institute

TFLI offers structured classes in advanced conversation in real-life situations, as well as grammar, writing, pronunciation, and TESL preparation for a fee. The placement test, which costs $20, is by appointment.
