International Student Hold Spring 2013
Beginning midnight, Monday, January 14, 2013 the Spring 2013 International Student Hold will be active.
What does that mean? This means that you will not be able to drop below a full course of study without permission from ISSS.
What is the purpose of this hold? The purpose of the hold is to prevent you from dropping below full-time and unknowingly putting your immigration status in jeopardy. Remember as an international student you are required by immigration to maintain a full course of study each semester.
What if I want to add a class? If you are an Arts & Science (A & S) student and want to add a class then A & S will be able to override the hold and add your class. The hold will still remain in effect but you can add the class.
Students not in A & S will need to email isss@vanderbilt.edu the following information to add the class:
Full Name
VunetID
Add Course ID and Section (example: LPO-3720-01)
Add Course Title
Add Course Instructor
What if I want to drop a class? If you are an Arts & Science (A & S) student that wants to drop a class and dropping the class will not take you below a full course of study then A & S can override the hold and process the drop. However, if the drop will take you below a full course of study then A & S will contact ISSS to approve the drop. Please see an adviser in ISSS if your drop is not approved by ISSS.
Students not in A & S will need to email isss@vanderbilt.edu the following information to drop the class:
Full Name
VunetID
Drop Course ID and Section (example: LPO-3720-01)
Drop Course Title
Drop Course Instructor
ISSS will notify you if your drop is approved and send your information to the Registrar’s Office for processing. Please see an adviser in ISSS if your drop is not approved by ISSS.
How do I get Authorization to drop below Full-Time from ISSS? Reducing your course load below full-time can only be approved by ISSS based on one six reasons according to immigration. These six reasons are outlined in the ISSS Reduced Course Load Authorization (RCL) form. If one of the reasons applies to your situation then you must complete the Reduced Course Load Authorization form and have the form signed by your academic adviser and then submit the completed form to ISSS. The RCL form can be found on our website at, http://www.vanderbilt.edu/isss/wp-content/uploads/ReducedCourseLoadAuth.pdf.
