WOW features a different topic of global interest each week, with presentations by students, staff, and faculty. Past topics have included, "Debating the U.S. Drinking Age," "Journey to Japan," "Crisis in the Ivory Coast," and "Miracle of the Andes." International Education Week is an annual initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, http://iew.state.gov/, to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the U.S. International Stress Fest is held annually on the last day of classes in the Spring Semester. This event introduces the campus to relaxation techniques from around the world, alleviating tensions of work and study, while promoting cross-cultural awareness. "Global Relaxation Stations" feature Origami, Henna Tattoos, Turkish Fortune Readings, International Tea Tasting, Batik Tie-Dye T-shirts, and more! Tennessee Conference for International Leadership (TN-CIL) Student leaders from across Tennessee gather for this annual conference. 100 participants include international students and U.S. study abroad students currently enrolled in Tennessee colleges and universities. TN-CIL includes workshops, community service projects, team building games, diversity exercises, and social events. Students and staff present conference sessions focused on study abroad, campus diversity, international programming, personal goals, group dynamics, and more. Vanderbilt International Volunteers (VIV) recruits volunteers to promote global awareness and understanding. VIV volunteers - international and American students - serve as cultural ambassadors, sharing their cultures, perspectives, and experiences. VIV's assist with program planning and coordination on campus and beyond. Click the link above to submit your application to become a VIV. First Friends is Vanderbilt's international friendship program, connecting international students with Americans on and off campus for friendship and cross-cultural exchange. Vanderbilt International Partners & Families (VIPAF) is a passport to new friendships and experiences. The purpose of VIPAF is to promote friendships and understanding among international spouses, families and U.S. citizens. VIPAF provides social activities for Vanderbilt's international community as a means of introducing members to each other and to the people and places of Nashville. Building community includes both students and our significant others. AwardsThomas M. Weser Award honors one international student each year who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to intellectual life, cross-cultural appreciation, and personal integrity. Weser Award recipients are typically active in student organizations and community service projects outside of the classroom and maintain a solid record of academic performance at the undergraduate or graduate level. Scholarships"Eighty-one percent of the international students in the United States finance their education through personal and family sources at the undergraduate level.
