Internet Service Provider (ISP) Info and Advice

Internet service options range from cheap, no-frills connection services to those that offer top speeds, unlimited access, national and/or global access and a wide array of services. Some things you may want to consider are outlined on our ISP advice page.

Comcast cable modem service is currently Nashville's fastest remote access option. (NOTE: Users have reported an inability to mount VUspace over Comcast connections. Comcast blocks many ports that some find useful and has poor support for Macintosh.) The lowest price for remote access -- free -- is from NetZero. A comprehensive list of these and other ISPs has been compiled by internet.com.

Once you choose an ISP, you can use it for most online resources at Vanderbilt. You can read your VUmail while using an ISP by using any secure e-mail client, or you may choose to use VUwebmail from a web browser. If you use VUMC e-mail, a web client is also available.
