Nashville Ballet’s Carmina Burana
TPAC’s Polk Theater

Join Director Paul Vasterling and dancers from the Nashville ballet as we explore the larger than life production of Carmina Burana. Latin for Songs from Beuern, Carmina Burana is a collection of poems written by students and clergy from the 11th – 13th centuries which satirized and rebelled against the Catholic Church for its controversial politics of the time.  In 1936, several of the poems were put to music by German composer Carl Orff.  Orff’s popular score continues to live on through countless television commercials, film scores, and concert performances around the globe. With original choreography by Vasterling, the Nashville Ballet brings the music and irreverent poems to new life onstage.

The Melodores

TPAC’s Andrew Jackson Hall

Founded in 2009, The Vanderbilt Melodores are the newest male a cappella group to hit the Vanderbilt campus. Comprising over a dozen members, they bring the tradition of a cappella music to a new level of sound, quality, and range. Singing everything from classic barbershop pieces and gospel music to jazz, bluegrass, and modern hits from all genres, the Melodores challenge the notion of what it means to sing a cappella.  Join us as we discuss the history and lost art of this genre and at the same time be entertained by some of the Melodores’ most popular songs from their repertoire.  You don’t want to miss it!
