Spring 2015 concerts at the Blair School of Music

Special events include dedication of new Dobson pipe organ; world premiere of new work by composer Michael Hersch; VORTEX percussion and the American Gamelan; and the 2015 College Band Directors National Association conference

The Spring 2015 concert season at the Blair School of Music is full of firsts. On February 8, we celebrate the dedication of our new Dobson pipe organ in Steve & Judy Turner Recital Hall,
whose construction and installation were made possible through a generous gift from Cal Turner Jr. and Laura Dugas. On February 26, violinist Carolyn Huebl and pianist Mark Wait present the world premiere of a new work commissioned from composer Michael Hersch. On March 15, VORTEX percussion presents the Southestern U.S. premiere performance of the American Gamelan. And March 24-28, Blair hosts the biennial conference of the College Band Directors National Association, including the debut performance with Béla Fleck of a wind ensemble arrangement of  The Imposter, the concerto Fleck composed for and performed with the Nashville Symphony.

Other performances of note include the conclusion of a yearlong mini-series in which pianist Craig Nies and violinist Carolyn Huebl are performing all 16 of W.A. Mozart’s Sonatas for Piano and Violin (March 29 and April 17). The Nightcap Concert Series spotlights two theatrical performances: Richard Strauss’ “Enoch Arden,” in piano and poetry (January 20); and “Can You Hear Me,”  an original lyric theater piece incorporating popular song, art song, spoken dialogue, trombone and piano (February 10). And violist Matthew Hunter of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra will be in residence this spring for collaborative performances with Blair faculty and students (March 18-19).

Most events at the Blair School of Music are free and open to the public. (Exceptions are clearly noted in the concert calendar.) Free parking is available in West Garage, across the street from the entrance of the school, and free valet parking is provided for many events. The Blair School of Music is located at 2400 Blakemore Avenue, Nashville, Tenn., 37212.
