Class of 2012
Hometown: Centralia, IL
Travis's passion for service started and flourished early at a young age
from working closely around children with mental and physical
handicaps. During high school, Travis spent time at Murray G. Warren Developmental Center talking to the residents and providing them with a very important and
valuable social outlet.
Continuing to focus his volunteer efforts on those with health problems,
Travis developed and headed a committee of local high school students whose
goal was to raise both awareness about cystic fibrosis, and funds to donate
to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (www.cff.org). Using the phrase, "Live
for Today, Hope for Tomorrow", the group designed wristbands to be sold to
the community with all proceeds going to the CFF.
Travis continued in his service working with the American Red Cross to help
organize community wide blood drives to be held at his high school. He also
assisted faculty members in organizing several food, toy, and clothing
drives in his community. During the summer of his senior year, Travis
participated in Project Pride, a non profit organization that provides food
to the homeless citizens of St. Louis, MO.
During high school Travis was very active in both athletics and student
government. Holding positions of student body president, National Honor
Society president, and cross country captain, he developed his leadership
skills both in and outside of the classroom. Lettering in track, cross
country, and basketball in high school, Travis hopes to continue his passion
for athletics by working with local youth teams once in Nashville.
Travis feels extremely thankful and blessed to be apart of the Ingram
Scholars Program. He knows that without God, none of this would be
possible. At Vanderbilt, he plans to pursue a career mixing both foreign
policy and medicine.
