In high school, Lindsey founded a chapter of Glamour Gals, a national non-profit that aims to end elder loneliness by having young women provide complimentary facials and makeovers to residents of nursing homes and assisted living centers. She led her chapter to bi-weekly visits to St. Cabrini Nursing Home to successfully create lasting relationships between the two generations. Lindsey has brought her love and passion for Glamour Gals to Vanderbilt, founding the Vanderbilt Glamour Gals Chapter, which visits Belmont Village at least twice a month.
In high school Lindsey was also involved in tutoring and served as her high school’s tutor coordinator for Children’s Village, a residential school for at-risk youth, where Lindsey tutored adolescent boys in Math, English, and Science. She has continued her passion of working with children by volunteering as a tutor for Vanderbuddies.
At Vanderbilt, Lindsey serves on the board of STAND, a student run organization that aims to bring awareness to the campus about the current situation in Darfur and genocide. As a part of STAND, she volunteers at the Sudanese Community Center and Lost Boys Center. Lindsey also has participated in Alternative Spring Break both her Freshman and Sophomore year. Her first year she volunteered at the Anthony House, a homeless shelter in Florida, and her second year she went with the Hillel to Uruguay to build homes for families. Lindsey now serves on the Hillel board as Vice President of Communications. Lindsey spent part of her summer after sophomore year in Cape Town, South Africa with a Vanderbilt service-learning program, VISAGE, where she volunteered in the Manenberg Township, working with adults in a computer training program and 7th grade children in an educational Holiday Program.
Lindsey is honored to be an Ingram Scholar and looks forward to serving Vanderbilt and the greater Nashville community. |
