Vanessa Rodriguez

Class of 2009
College of Arts and Science
Hometown: Pleasonton, CA

Vanessa Rodriguez is a second year pre-med student in the College of Arts and Science. In high school Vanessa was on the Board of Directors of the nonprofit organization, FUNDVEC, whose mission is to build libraries in rural regions of Venezuela. Through extensive fundraising efforts and continued awareness, FUNDVEC was able to build its first public library in El Paramo, Venezuela by the end of 2004.

At Vanderbilt, Vanessa has continued her service efforts by volunteering for several medically related organizations. After an inspiring Alternative Spring Break trip working with the Gay Men's Health Crisis in New York City, Vanessa decided to restart the discontinued Vanderbilt CARES back on campus. Vanderbilt CARES strives to create HIV/AIDS awareness and provides AIDS-related service opportunities for its members.

She is proud to be and Ingram Scholar and plans to continue expanding her service efforts over the next few years.
