Prior to his career at Vanderbilt, Andrew focused his volunteer efforts on disaster relief preparedness and community education through the Red Cross. His involvement included everything from staging puppet shows at local elementary schools to working in shelters during the 2004 hurricane season. Andrew was also active in the YMCA Youth in Government program, serving as a state officer for the program in 2005, and more recently, returning to preside over the Conference on National Affairs in the summer of 2006. As a Vanderbilt student, Andrew has been involved in a wide variety of service efforts. In his freshman year, Andrew worked with the American Red Cross in their efforts to accommodate displaced persons following their evacuation from post-Katrina New Orleans, which led to a trip down to rural Louisiana to help with recovery efforts. Andrew also tutored through Project I.N.S.P.I.R.E. As a sophomore, Andrew was active in Manna Project International and served on the executive planning committee for their annual MannaFit Benefit Dinner. He also mentored local children at Preston-Taylor Ministries. Currently a junior, Andrew is the Vice President of Fundraising and Executive Chair of the MannaFit Benefit Dinner. He still serves Florida Youth in Government as a graduate advisor and works as a mentor for underprivileged youth and Spanish-speaking immigrants through Preston-Taylor Ministries and MPI. Having spent the past summer doing cross-community work in Northern Ireland, Andrew hopes to continue exploring the field of conflict resolution. He also plans on continuing his work in disaster relief, community development and youth mentoring.
