Amara has always had a deep passion for kids, strongly rooted in all of the volunteer work she has done for her home church. In addition to serving as Secretary to the youth ministry and Sunday school teacher’s aide, Amara also channeled her love of singing by co-founding her church’s youth choir. In the process, she noticed that children and young adults rarely believed in themselves or in their abilities enough to work hard. Since then, Amara has dedicated herself to seeking out volunteer opportunities that help children understand that success is not hereditary or given to a chosen few, but open to those who are dedicated and committed to working hard to achieve their goals. This knowledge is what has helped her to succeed and what continues to fuel her accomplishments, and she wants her peers to experience it as well.

Amara has a great love for the fine arts, which, coupled with the desire to see others succeed compelled her to complete her summer project with the social enterprise Care2Rock (an organization that offers online music education to the public for a fee while giving free music lessons to youth in foster care). Amara never wants another child to not have the opportunity to partake in the fine arts because of things beyond their control. She believes that every child should have an equal opportunity to expand themselves artistically if they so desire.

This past school year, Amara volunteered at the Nashville Food Project. Her work there has expanded her ability to volunteer with a wide range of people, not just children, and she looks forward to returning there this year. With the Ingram Scholarship Program, Amara desires to continue expanding her service and impact in the community. She believes this program will challenge her in ways she has never been challenged before and she is excited for the experience, growth, and knowledge that she will gain during her time here.
