Caroline Mulligan

Class of: 2018
Hometown: Minneapolis, MN
School: Peabody College of Education
Major(s): Elementary Education; Human & Organizational Development

Over her first three years at Vanderbilt, Caroline has dedicated her service to fighting education inequality, homelessness, and environmental issues. Caroline began tutoring at The Afterschool Program as a first year at Vanderbilt and now serves on the leadership team overseeing mentor logistics for the student-run non-profit. She has participated in and led Alternative Spring Break trips, working in Mississippi, Florida, and Jamaica for efforts to decrease poverty, improve climate conditions in national parks, and increase educational opportunities. She regularly volunteers with Room In The Inn, a Nashville organization supporting the homeless population of the city with daily dinners and overnight accommodations.

Caroline has completed two Ingram summer projects. Following sophomore year, Caroline conducted her project in Udaipur, India, working with the Udaipur-based NGO Prayatna Samiti on watershed and food security efforts. After junior year, Caroline worked with Partnership for Afterschool Education in New York City to develop and teach curriculum for academically-focused summer programs for low-income youth across the city.

As a rising senior, Caroline feels extremely grateful and excited to be an Ingram Scholar, where she has the opportunities to pursue such interests and deepen her experience in service work. She loves the community of scholars and lifelong network, and she is looking forward to another year in the program.
