Nashville, TN - Valor Collegiate Academy

This summer, I worked as a Family, Research, and Operations Fellow at Valor Collegiate Academy, a new charter school that opened up in August of 2014 in south Nashville. For this project, I developed a family survey with the help of a professional anthropologist and nationally recognized community developer for the purpose of ascertaining ways that families want to be involved in Valor in the future and what families expect for the future to hold at Valor. Furthermore, I developed connections to various community sport and club organizations that Valor can use for meaningful partnerships in the future and developed service opportunities and a curriculum for students and Valor to utilize. Lastly, I served as an event planner for family orientation and engagement opportunities all summer and served in an operations capacity the last two weeks of the project ensuring that the school was ready to open at the beginning of August. Overall, my work with Valor Collegiate Academy focused on preparing Valor to open its doors for the first time, gaining feedback for Valor and its marketing and vision efforts, and helping Valor to prepare for its future growth.
