Daniel’s service experiences started from an early age, beginning in Cub Scouts with community-level fundraisers, drives, and projects. As he moved on and entered high school, he sought out more opportunities for engagement, becoming involved at his synagogue, the local Leo Club, and continuing to be active with the Boy Scouts. As a sophomore, he was selected to represent his school at the Central Pennsylvania Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference, an experience which reinforced his drive and commitment to service. As a senior, he completed his Eagle Scout Project, constructing a nature trail/meditation center on unused land at his synagogue.
As an Ingram Scholar at Vanderbilt, Daniel has pursued service dealing with the environment and education. As a first year, he joined Students Promoting Environmental Awareness and Responsibility, and organization in which he now serves as President, which allowed him to engage in conservation related projects with different organizations around Nashville. He also became involved with Nashville Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO), a Sierra Club initiative designed to bring outdoor experiences to inner city youth; the summer after his freshman year, Daniel completed his Ingram Summer Project with (ICO) organizing summer outings and building curriculum for the program. As a senior, Daniel is entering his fourth year of involvement with Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science, an organization which provides enhances science instruction for students in Metro Nashville Public Schools. This will also be his fourth year serving as mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters. In addition, he volunteers with Urban Green Lab, a mobile-sustainability lab which teaches students throughout Nashville how they can improve ecological, economical, and personal health by adopting green habits.
After he graduates, Daniel is not quite sure of what he wants to do (although he better decide pretty quickly). He is currently considering graduate studies in conversation biology or pursuing a career as a screenwriter.
