Nashville, TN - Meharry Medical College - 12South Community Clinic

This summer, I engaged in an Ingram Faculty Fellows Summer Project in Partnership with Dr. Courtney Muse, Asst. Director of the Department of Medicine, Health, and Society at Vanderbilt University and Jaden Harris, Program Manager of the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Meharry Medical College. Through an Independent Study with Dr. Muse, I conducted research on the operation models and administrative aspects of student-run medical clinics. During the summer of project implementation, I conducted various site visits to student-run medical clinics around the United States, most notably, the UCSD Free Clinic Project in San Diego, California. Throughout the rest of the summer, I worked with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Meharry to apply for grants and finalize the operations manual. After a semester of research and a summer of project implementation, the 12South Community Clinic is now a fully functioning student-run medical clinic. The people I have interacted with during this transformative summer immersion program have taught me more about medicine than I could ever hope to learn in a college science class, and for this I am eternally grateful.
