During her undergraduate career, Lyndi devoted a great deal of time to Vanderbilt's Alternative Spring Break, a program which sends hundreds of students each year to work in communities across the U.S. and beyond. Lyndi served as a site leader, board member, and eventually co-chair of ASB. Additionally, she directed a program called Students Teaching AIDS to Students, developing educational materials and training other Vanderbilt students to implement preventive sex education in area middle schools. Lyndi also coordinated service-learning activities for Oasis Academy (now Community High School), an independent high school designed for students recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.
After college, Lyndi took a position working for Congressman Bob Clement in his Washington, DC office. She then went on to work for Nashville CARES (the leading middle Tennessee AIDS service organization) and the Office of Volunteer Activities at Vanderbilt (now the Office of Active Citizenship and Service).
In 2001, Lyndi decided to build on her undergraduate work in sociology and women's studies and returned to Vanderbilt to pursue her Ph.D. in sociology. She is now writing a dissertation proposal to examine the discursive strategies and political successes of transnational women's movements. In the future she hopes to promote collaboration between and among feminist scholars and activists locally and transnationally. Lyndi currently lives in Nashville, TN with husband Matt, daughter Ellie, and their three dogs.
