Tiffany Fisher

Class of 2009
School of Engineering
Majors: Engineering Science
Communication of Science and Technology
Minor: Engineering Management
Hometown: Brea, CA

Although throughout high school Tiffany focused mainly on community service involving children, her time here at Vanderbilt thus far has greatly broadened her interests as far as service is concerned. The biggest project that she is currently undertaking is the revival of Vanderbilt Prison Project, a multi-dimensional service organization dealing with all aspects of the criminal justice system.  She hopes to eventually bring the organization up to its former status including service programs benefitting at-risk youth, those currently incarcerated, ex-offenders, and even families who have been disadvantaged by the system.  In addition to direct service, VPP also focuses on educating the Vanderbilt and Nashville communities about these pressing issues. Although Tiffany would never have imagined herself dealing with anything even remotely related to prisons, the Ingram Scholarship Program has allowed for her to realize and embrace the fact that breaking out of her comfort zone is the best way to grow and learn more about both herself and the world around her. In addition to VPP, she also works with the YMCA Black Achievers program as a member of the Engineering Cluster and teaches 5th and 6th graders basic computer skills in Kids and Computers.

Tiffany aspires to one day use her Vanderbilt education to help ameliorate the Digital Divide and make computers and other technology more available to those who have not previously had the privilege of growing up with it. She feels that her degree along with the Ingram Scholars Program will provide her with an excellent base to achieve this goal.
