At Vanderbilt, Laura has focused her volunteer work on Nashville's Hispanic
community. During her freshman year, Laura taught science lessons to
elementary students through Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science and
cooked dinners for families at the Ronald McDonald House through her
sorority.
During her sophomore year, she began the AMIGOS group to work with the
Hispanic community of Nashville by tutoring at the Metro Nashville Public
Schools and teaching English classes for Hispanic adults. Individually, she
volunteered in an English as a Second Language classroom at Haywood
Elementary. She also participated in Alternative Spring Break in White Oak,
Tennessee where she tutored and mentored high school students at Jellico
High School.
Following her undergraduate study, Laura will attend medical school at
Vanderbilt University. |
