Andrew Alsentzer

Class of 2009
College of Arts and Science
Major: Neuroscience
Hometown: Nashville, TN

In high school, Andy enjoyed spending his time tutoring underprivileged children in West Nashville. He has also worked helping at Soup Kitchens, clearing trails for a new park, and playing with kids at Special Olympics.  He also organized a program through the Red Cross to raise awareness for the importance of CPR in high schools.

At Vanderbilt, Andy continues his work mentoring and tutoring children as a volunteer and executive board member of Vanderbuddies. He volunteers weekly at Preston Taylor Ministries and CWA-Cayce Learning Center community centers in North and West Nashville respectively.

Andy spent the summer of 2007 volunteering in a regional hospital in Moshi, Tanzania, assisting in surgeries, teaching HIV/AIDS prevention practices, and aiding in daily clinical work. He also spent time in a local orphanage teaching English and Math to the children. Andy had a wonderful, eye-opening experience and is extremely grateful to the Ingram program and excited for a great year.
